How many types of MBA programs are there?
Students can pursue a master’s degree in any of these different MBA programs
available in India, to stay relevant in the competitive market of the 21st century. Let’s
have a look at various type of MBA programs along with their details:
a) Full-time Regular MBA: This MBA degree involves residing in-campus or
being a day scholar in the college/university and completing the curriculum of
the institute for the whole two years (4 semesters). However, this does involve
doing an internship with a corporate or government institute to gain industry
exposure and doing practical case studies which are a part of the curriculum.
The cost of a Regular MBA is much higher and instead of percentage or
marks, students are awarded CGPA out of 4 or 10.
b) One Year Full-time MBA: Certain institutes in India offer a 1-year full time
MBA instead of 2 year one. For admission in this course, a certain level of
work experience of the students are required. The duration of a 1-year MBA
course ranges from approximately 11 months to 15 months and they typically
do not offer any scope of internship in a corporate or IT sector. Students in
one-year MBA options do not have the scope of change of specialization or
domain but they also have the advantage that they can complete the training
in business management in half the time and half the cost than the regular
two year MBA students.
c) Part Time MBA: In a Part time MBA, the classes are usually held in the
evenings or during the weekends so as to meet the needs of working
professionals or students who cannot pursue a full-time regular MBA due to
work or professional obligations or other reasons. Many part-time MBA
degree courses are flexible and allow the students to complete their studies
within a short span of time.
d) Executive MBA: Students in these MBA types post-graduation courses
typically have at least seven to ten years of work experience and look for
certain leadership experience. An "Executive MBA " institute offers classes
especially on weekends, evenings or one week a month etc. These programs
typically last from 16 to 22 months duration.
e) Dual Degree MBA: In this type of MBA degree, students pursue core
management courses of the curriculum and can opt for an elective in their
preferred discipline. So that they can get a dual degree MBA at the
completion of their MBA course at the end. In India, dual degree MBA are
offered by many institutes/colleges nowadays, and students usually opt for it
keeping in mind that this would be helpful in their career if they plan to change
roles at a later point in their career in the Corporate world.
